I have a hopefully simple question about IP's on AIX. I currently have a number of PC's running Procomm Plus telnet sessions connected to the server (rs6000). I now want to add a terminal at a remote branch, using a pair of linksys VPN boxes over the internet. I have the tunnel set up, but can't ping the AIX. I have been told I need to set the gateway on the AIX to the IP of the local Linksys box to allow this to work.

How do I do that?? Is the feature in smit? I am an AIX newbie (if you couldn't already tell)

Thanks for the help

Thanks for the tip - is this something that will work on the fly, or is a system reboot in order for this to take effect (will determine when I do it)

Thanks
Rich

it does something on the fly but not always perfectly - so better assume reboot and configure from console

You can do the following on the fly...but it will probably not keep after reboot...
so you will have to do in smit tcpip eventually.....However...you can try it to see
if it works for you....REMEMBer in AIX 4 there is only one default gateway per machine...

Things can go wrong even with the best of plans...If it is a critical, and cannot be down Then Murphys law says plan for a time to be down.

To establish a default gateway, enter:
route add 0 192.100.13.7

Make sure you have the ipforwarding on? default is off..
no -o ipforwarding=1
do a no -o ipforwarding and see what it is set at? To make permanent
add to /etc/rc.net
