Can I hook my computer up to our compact ics unit so that I can use it for an answering machine.

You can use an ATA o the internal ATA (I-ATA) and cross connect it to your answering machine/computer's modem input jack. Then remove the line ring appearances for the ATA or I-ATA (I-ATA DN's would be either 29 on a 4X8 system or 37 on standard software). Next step is to set the forwarding as you desire, either just forward one phone that rings to the ATA or program in Terminals & sets->Capabilities-> fwd no answer to the ATA.
Now the ATA will get calls that you forward to it.

Can anybody help me. I recently changed out a customer to a MICS system with the new "T" series phones. The customer complains that they here noise (white) on outgoing calls. I seen on this forum that the new global analog trunk cards will correct this problem. I changed out the LS/DS trunk cards to the global cards- there was a slight change. Are there any other alternatives to this problem. I was going to try and have the telco check thier lines, but you know how helpful they can be. Thanks.

In all the posts I have read on this subject... and the answer I didn't get from a Nortel engineer, I'ld say there is no real easy fix. There was probably noise before the new sets but new sets often wake the customer up to being a bit critical after spending money. I have found the noise to differ from KSU to KSU, be it a Mod 8X24 DR1 to an MICS Rls 4.1 there appears to be no pattern. If you do figure this out please TELL ALL OF US.

I have been told that the major "white noise" trouble is a compatability issue between the LS/DS cards (possible defective Codec chip) and CICS, the MICS didn't seem to havve the same issue. JerryReeve
