In reference to thread1256-893764 (required reading), I offer the following puzzle.

How many homonyms which are NOT homophones can you list? How many homophones which are NOT homonyms can you list?

Good Luck

SF0751 - Perhaps the puzzle wasn't clear. It looks like all of your homonyms are also homophones, and that all of your homophones are also homonyms.

The puzzle is to find homonyms that are NOT homophones and homophones that are NOT homonyms.

Good Luck

[blush] I knew I was missing something; it seemed just too easy. I'll have some more coffee this morning and try again.....

I'll use on-line dictionaries when I have to, but somehow my, slightly out-of-date, hard copy OED has more gravitas and is my primary source of info.

For words, I prefer hard copy, you can't beat the synchronicity, or the just plain "I spotted an interesting word" thing. (OK, I'm probably terminally boring, but I look up a word then get lost in other similar words, I find it fascinating.)
