Homepage has been hijacked

I am trying to help a friend fix some problems on their PC. I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy and it got rid of lots of good stuff. I tried to install AVG Virus Suite but I am getting an error during installation saying it cant find shell.dll. We uninstalled McAfee b/c it would not complete a scan.

Their IE homepage is set to
res://xhewa.dll/index.html#37049
and I cannot change it. Can anyone point me somewhere for some guidance. Free would be nice, but I suppose they'll do whatever it takes. Please help. I have been here two hours and I am pulling my hair out. TIA...
