Need help establishing a home to work and vise versa connection. I have a speedstream router 2604 at home and a netgear 144p at work. I am hoping I can use these routers instead of putting 2 nics on the DC at work.

So far I am getting error 800, I have ping the DC and tried (cmd) telnet 1723 and both have not worked. I have the following setup:
home ISP/cable modem->router dhcp/nat->switch->xp pro dhcp IP
work ISP adtran router (3 public IPs)->router dhcp/nat->switch to all systems. DC has static IP 192.168.0.xx.

Thanks to anyone who tries to help.

How is the VPN set up. Do your routers have VPN built in or do you FORWARD the vpn traffic from the router to a domain controller to authenticate the vpn user?

At this point I was told it would not work unless both routers allowed vpn either by software/router vpn or some sort of port forwarding, which both do not have a port forwarding option on the web gui interface.

I am either going to buy one that allows vpn or was thinking about a system I have here that runs 2003 serv er standard with check point third party firewall software. I could probably setup DHCP and RRAS/NAT.

Do you have a Firewall at work? Most firewalls also have a built-in VPN which could be used. There is a public IP address on the out side of the firewall that should be used to connect to the Network.
At home just add the microsoft VPN client and point it to the public IP of the firewall. There also may be a propritary VPN client that the firewall needs, if so use that.
Your PC should pickup an IP address from the DHCP on the network side for the VPN connection. This will allow you to Login to the DC.
