Hi, I realise this isn't exactly the right forum for this message but I couldn't find one that suited better.
I recently signed up with an ISP that supplied me with a static IP and am hoping to run a low traffic web server via it. My question is how to go about this?
I'm running OS/X and have apache, php & mysql server up and running locally. How would I go about setting it up so I could access this apache from the outside world using my static IP.
Oh and the mac is behind a router, if that makes a difference.

All advice is much appreciated,
thanks.

Drive a Steam Roller

1. set the machine to internal static IP
something in the line of eg. 192.168.1.10

2. get in your router and use NAT or Port Forwarding of port 80 towards your machine (eg.192.168.1.10)

3. go to another network (or post IP here) and test your 1& 2 steps by going to your static ip of http:\\static.ip.given.by.isp

(optional)
4. get a domain name with godady.com or register.com and point your towards your IP

this is just a basics of networking while you should go through the FAQ suggested to understand what it all involves having a high % of uptime and backups etc.

All the best!
