A home network of 2 P4 PC's running XP Pro. SP2. PCs' connected through Netgear DG814 on an ADSL connection. Each PC communicates happily on internet via router.
Now I'm trying to network two PC's through Netgear DG814 router/modem using MS Network wizard. It works but only one way! I can see PC2 from PC1 but can not see PC1 from PC2. Can ping both PC's from each other and also ping router from both PCs'without problem.

To summarise, the problem is that only PC1 can fully see the shared disks and folders on PC2 whereas PC1 does not allow to be seen by PC2 and gives error "You do not have appropriate access rights for this server. For more information contact your Administrator".

It appears that some security setting on PC1 is stopping PC2 accessing it over the network. Note that the both PCs' are in a workgroup.

Any ideas?

Thanks

No offense, but just for the sake of clarity:
1. This is off-topic for this forum. Your problem is not related to DNS, BOMD, DHCP or WINS.
2. Your computers are/were networked - they are both using the same connection through the same device. Just because they can't share files, doesn't mean that they are not networked.

To resolve the problem follow the steps at If you follow that exactly & still have a problem, it's probably related to a software firewall. This is a fairly common problem & is often discussed in forum779.

My apologies, I picked the wrong forum for my question. However, it was still related to WINS setting. In fact the article helped me resolve the problem.
The key to success is to actually do as the article suggests. All my settings were exactly the same as the article suggested but resaving these settings made the difference to the resolution of problem.
Thanks
