Hi I am looking to optimise my simple home network.
I have my main PC a laptop an Xbox and wireless router. I also have two powerline adapters. The router pc and laptop are in the standard configuration connecting wirelessly to the router and the router acting as a DHCP server . The xbox connects to the home pc using the powerline adapters, so a powerline is plugged into an ethernet port on the router and another on the xbox. The xbox can connect to the internet and to videos on the pc however the wireless section from my PC to the routher is the weak link in the chain and struggles with HD video.
What I would like to do is have move the powerline currently connected to the router and connect it into the LAN card on my pc so there is a direct connection over the powerline from my PC to the xbox. I want to continue to use the wireless card on my pc to access the internet and also want the xbox to still be able to access the internet. I also want my laptop and any other subsequent wireless devices to continue to access the internet through the wireless router? I have briefly looked at bridging the WLAN and LAN on the main PC and setting up internet connection sharing buy I'm not sure that will work in this scenario as want the router to remain a DHCP to serve other wireless connections.
Is there some way I can do this via bridging the connections on my PC and adding static routes? route add etc?
(xbox- Powerline adapter) ---------- (Powerline-LAN -MainPC - WLAN)-->>>>--Router---Internet
