Home network file sharing

I have just set up a wireless home network (BT Voyager and accessories) with a desktop and laptop. The desktop uses XP Pro and the laptop XP Home. I would like to allow the laptop to have access to a number of folders/files on the desktop but dont know how. I have made a folder on the desktop "shared" but how does the laptop now get to view/open it?

I am a complete novice at this so keep it simple
