home drive disappearing on clients

we have a windows 2000 PDC and windoes XP clients
we are having a problem when users log in their home drive is not viewable from windows explorer howere a file open in any program shows the drive and it is accessable

all the other drives that map out in the login script are fine however

it seems to be a hit or miss thing a cold reboot of the any of xp machines and the home drive will map 60% of the time or so
