Hi,
This is problably too easy of a question, and that's why I can't find a Direct answer.

I'm redoing my home phone lines with Cat 5. Do I have to replace my wall outlets with RJ14??, and since these are only 6 wires what do/or which wires do I leave out when configuring the connector. Also RJ11 (from existing phones)will fit/work in the new RJ14 wall connectors??

Need to get over this hump of lack of specific knowledge.
Thanks for replies,
CW

RJ14 and Is often called RJ11. If you have 4 pins it already is RJ14. If you're re-doing everything it wouldn't hrt to use RJ25 (3 pair-6 pin) jacks. I recently read an article that claimed that the FCC had pair CAT 3 wiring for all new construction but it was unclear whether they wanted 3 or 4 pair wiring.

Standard phone plugs will work in any jack up to and including 8 in RJ45.

Here's your color conversions:

2 W/OR W/OR * Blk
3 BL/W BL/W BL/W Red
4 W/BL W/BL W/BL Grn
5 OR/W OR/W * Yel
6 GR/W * * Blu

Thanks,
I have some RJ45's already, so I problably go with them for the wall outlets. I was thinking that RJ14's were 6 wire, I was mistaken, and I haven't even really heard of the RJ25's.(or missplaced the knowledge) I am replacing all phone/cable and installing data also. This is so if I ever break down to install a cable modem, I can access it from any room. I found a nice all-in-one cable(phone/coax/data) center/panel at Jensen Tools at $325. One of the best I've been able to find. (any other suggestions??) Thought of patch panel/hub, but all-in-one seems to be cost effective for my nominal needs.

Thanks again,

Craig
