I have a DLink DSL300 ADSL modem and a DLink DI-707P broadband router. All rigged up and accessing the net fine! Good stuff.
I have a static IP address on the WAN side of the router, and run the LAN side of the router as a DHCP server, so the PCs pick up a local IP address when they boot. I'm running ZoneAlarm (feebie) on the PCs.
A friend wants a web site, and I'm alowed by my ISP to run it from my home. I need to register a domain name against my WAN IP address in order to get traffic to my router, but what do I do from there?
* how do I get the traffic to the right PC
* how does it know it wants the web server - does the port number somehow get preserved?
* how do I ensure an external party can't get into other areas of the PC or other PCs on my network?
All good fun. I'd love some pointers on this!
