Some water was spilled onto our Mlx-20L console. After a couple of days, everything is working except the hold button. At this point I don't think it is just going to start working on it's own. Is there anything else we can try before purchasing a new console ?

Thanks,
Bill

You need to take it apart and clean it - especiaslly the button contacts. You may have caused a "short-circuit" as well - but, I would carefully take it apart and try cleaning it first.

Thanks for the info. Would you clean those contact buttons with a Q-tip and alcohol ? Also, can you clean that flexible/circuit piece without doing further damage ?

Thanks,
Bill

On the flex circuit - I clean off only the place were the button contacts are made and the edge connectors with a little paper towel and 90% isoprophyl alcohol. You also need to clean the rubber button pads and buttons themselves. Also, check the upper housing were the buttons come through - to make sure the holes are not gunked up. I would not use cotton - since the button ends are rough and can snag cotton for a later poor connection. Blow all the crevices out with a little compressed air - or your breath before final assembly. It is easiest to remove and replace all the buttons at once using the plastic flat piece that fits over the flex circuit - that way everything doesn't fall all over the place.

Just for fun, when you re-assemble the phone, reverse the order of the dial buttons and see if the user notices. ;-)
