I'm looking to install WSS on my web server. Problem is, it already hosts our existing website (the default site, however renamed), complicated by having Outlook Web Access(OWA) setup on the site.

I was reading the manual and read that WSS takes over the default site during installation.

I'm trying to think of the best way to shuffle about the sites to prevent my main site from being overwritten and/or corrupted.

I'm sure somebody has dealt with this before. Suggestions?

TIA.

Hello,

If you do a standard (single server install) using the MSDE you míght get into trouble with WSS installing in the default website.

If you chose Server farm installation and use SQL 2000 you will be able to configure everything on your own, and it will not install in the default website.

Also, make sure that Frontpage 2002 server extensions is not installed on the webserver you are installing WSS to.

When doing a serverfarm installation (even if it is just a single server) running SQL on a machine will use quite lots of memory resources (if not configured to only be allowed certain ammount of memory etc).

I would suggest you do a test insalltion on a testmachine before doing anything on a production server, it is not fun to play around on a server that is hosting a prod. application.

Regards,
Thomas
