Check the logs on your switch and see if it is logging anything about the interface going up and down. If not, then it is probably on the server and you can check the cable by changing it and then if that isn't it, go to the ok prompt and test the nic.

the switch is a 5-port dlink switch 10/100 auto.. it is plugged to one lan port.. i cant check any logs on the switch.. what commands can i issue to check the nic card from OS or OBP.... also this is not the only machine having this issue.. 3 machines that are plugged into the same switch are experiencing similar problems.. it is intermittent.. didnt happen before.. thanks in advance..

I am confused...

this is not the only machine having this issue

then

3 machines that are plugged into the same switch are experiencing similar problems

Is this the only server having problems or are three other machines having the same problem?

sorry i see nothing wrong from what u've quoted me.. that is correct .. 3 other machines are having similar issues aside from the one that i pasted the error message from..

misread it.

if three other machines are having a similar problem then i would still look at your switch logs to see if you can see the interfaces going up and down. if three machines are having the same problem it most likely isn't isolated to the servers themselves. you said you moved cables, so look there and look at your switch.

the lights on the switch itself keeps on blinkin.. i have no way to look at switch logs.. should adv_autoneg_cap be turned on or off ?

Generally, you should not use autoneg! That would be a 0.
