Has anyone had a problem with not being able to open consoles in Firefox? I'm on version 3.0.10.

Thanks

Works for me - on FF 3.0.10 also
HMC 7.3.4.0 ServicePack 1 Buildlevel 20090401.1

HTH,

Perhaps a JAVA issue? Can you open consoles from HMC session when you use IE?

HTH,

Unixfreak,

Do you have accees to HMC console, If yer verify that remote console is enable.

aixexplorer: Someone else mentioned this to me but couldn't follow up with an explanation of where to do this. What do you mean if I have access to HMC console?

Why have they changed this so it must be enabled? Quite a fundamental thing

Quite a fundamental thing?

Well, no not really. Can you open the consoles on the HMC screen down in the computer room itself?
Then on HMC screen, click HMC Management on left side
then open Remote Virtual Terminal dialog (towards bottom of right side of screen), then check "Enable remote virtual terminal connections" and click OK.

You might even be able to enable this from the remote HMC interface.

HTH,

Yes, having terminal access to the partitions is probably the most important and fundamental day-to-day functionality of the HMC. Why did they change this?

I just checked and it's already disabled and didn't fix it. I've never been to the DC so would have to get someone to check.

Unixfreak,

What I mean by HMC Console is Physical Access to HMC where you can login using local console of HMC, Also Once you are on HMC on left side Under HMC Management panel -under it there is option remote console by default it's disable need to check the box to enable it.

Did you or Anyone else before accessed these HMC using browser ? ,If not just need to check One more parameter on HMC Management
In the HMC navigation panel, select HMC Management.
In the contents panel, select Change Network Settings to display the Customize Network Settings window.
Click LAN Adapters, select the appropriate adapter from the list, and click Details.
On the LAN Adapter page of the LAN Adapters Details window, ensure that port 443 http is selected.
On the Firewall page, in the Firewall Settings list, , and click Allow Incoming, if necessary.
Click OK to close the LAN Adapter Details window.
Click OK to close the Customize Network Settings window

Hy,

You must install Run time Java 1.6 on plugging with IE or Firefox (download from Sun for example) for open console partition and authorize the popup

Good luck

Enable remote connections in the network settings on the hmc - if not done already.

ssh to the hmc as hscroot, or whatever.

Then use the vtmenu command.

Not only does this give you a nice menu to pick the system and then the lpar you want to connect to but you can then resize the window, and rather then the font size changing the rows and columns change, you can also cut / paste with ease and it is soooo much faster than the browser console.

It is also a good remote test of whether the HMC can actually open a console session to an LPAR.

biblio, you might have been onto something. I installed JRE 1.6 but not sure if this happened before but when I try to open a console, a little "Open terminal window" lnk pops up and the top of the window, a window outline pops up but disappears again. When I then click on the new link it's a new window that says:

"The task you want to switch to is an applet based task, which does not support 'Switch To'. Please use the window switching capabilities for local windows to 'Switch To' the window for this task."

So, doesn't quite work yet but... Any more ideas?

Thanks

Right, solved it! The console is a seperate Java app connecting to port 9960 on the HMC. Need to raise a firewall request to get access but will let you know.

Make sure the HMC-internal firewall application also allows it through...

HTH,

Not sure where I got this but for those that might care:
Code:
HMC V7 port definitions and default enablement.

HMC Ports Protocol Application name Description Enabled by default
22 TCP ssh.name Allows remote secure shell access No
443 + 9960 TCP SecureRemoteAccess.name Allow access to the HMC via remote web browser No
5989 TCP pegasus.name Allows access to OpenPegasus Server Yes
5988 + 9197 TCP CSM_SNIA.name SNIA CIM for Cluster System Management No
657 TCP/UDP RMC.name Allows access between HMC and partitions Yes
9920 + 9900 TCP/UDP FCS.name Allow HMC to HMC communication Yes
9735 TCP vtty.name Allows remote virtual terminal access Yes
2302 TCP vtty_proxy.name Allows remote virtual terminal access Yes
2300 + 2301 TCP i5250.name 5250 terminal access Yes
123 UDP ntp.name Network Time Protocol No
1701 UDP l2tp.name Allows the HMC to share its modem with an i5 OS partition Yes
427 UDP SLP.name Allows the HMC to receive and respond to Service Location Protocol service Yes
12347 + 12348 UDP RPD.name Allow group communication and aliveness UDP packets produced by RSCT subsystems.
This is required when forming an RSCT Peer Domain across multiple HMCs. Yes
8899 TCP hwserver.name Allow hardware servers between CSM and HMC, or between HMCs to communicate.
This is required for FNM to log errors and report to the ELA master on HMC.
RSCT Peer Domains must also be enabled for this to work properly Yes
162 TCP/UDP snmptrap.name Receive Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Trap messages. No

Incoming ping Echo-request:icmp ping.name Allow the HMC to respond to the ping network utility. Yes

The chhmc command can be used to change the firewall settings for each of the applications in the preceding table.
Examples:

To disable access to port 5989 for OpenPegasus on network interface eth0:
chhmc -c pegasus.name -s remove -a 0.0.0.0 -nm 0.0.0.0 -i eth0

To enable access to port 123 for NTP on network interface eth0:
chhmc -c ntp.name -s add -a 0.0.0.0 -nm 0.0.0.0 -i eth0

Oh well, I got the
Code:
thing at last but the tabs are broken and the last [code] thing will probably break this bit as well.

Here comes p5 telling me how to delimit the [code] but I can't really be bothered with it so save your time p5 :-)
