HMC Web-based System Manager - slow performance

Hi all.

Firstly, I know hardly anything about AIX and the HMC, I have kind of been landed with this one.

Basically, the Web-based System Manager has been installed on a desktop - that bit works ok. You can log onto the managed machine via the application and it connects at a reasonable speed. Now, you can navigate through the vast majority of the options in the Management Environment without any problems but the problem with performance occurs when you select "Servers and Partitions", then "Server Management", and when you select any server and try to drop down the Partitions option, the application will just sit there with the blue activity bar waving left and right in the bottom left-hand corner.

The PC is the other side of a firewall and WAN (decent link) and the following ports have been opened on the firewall to allow connectivity through:

ssh, telnet, ftp, www, https, 9090, range 5800-5803, range 5900-5904,range 30000-30009

Does anyone have any ideas why the partitions drop-down would just hang like that? Is there anything I could be missing or does anyome have any good links to any documentation that may help me? The version of the Web-Based Manager that we are running says it is:

Build: Mon Sep 26 16:50:38 CDT 2005
Level: currbld

TIA

first could you ping each partition from within your PC?

did you try to telnet to them?

maybe there is some connectivity problem.

Khalid

Does the "action" every happen? If so, how long are we talking about? I know if I VPN in from home and use WebSM on my laptop, it might take 5-10 seconds before I get a response. This is over a 1.5Mbps DSL line.

The partition action never actually completes - it can sit there for hours, but funnily enough it never times out or fails.

I will check and double-check the connectivity, ensuring that all IP Addresses and ports are definitely allowed through. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure...

This may seem like a dumb question, but does it work when you're on the HMC (not over websm). I was thinking it might be an HMC to Managedsystem Firmware problem, but if it works from the HMC, then that's not the problem.
