HMC, creating users?

I am trying to create a new HMC user (power5-Squadron) with the ability to perform the HMC commands, and regular unix commands (i.e. vi, cat, more, etc).
I have the root account (for a day) and am using "useradd". I want to be able to move around and easily look at logs, etc but also perform the HMC cmds (i.e. lssyscfg, lshmc, etc).
I have successfully created the user (using a different shell) yet no matter what group (hmc, root, users) I give the user it cannot perform the HMC cmds ("Cannot perform this command. You do not have the appropriate permissions.")

Does anyone no how to overcome this hurdle? I am thinking it is executing something in the /etc/profile that is preventing the userid from doing certain actions---I'm not sure.....

Thanx for any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you muck about with your HMC IBM will not support it.
If anything goes wrong you will lose the ability to control the system and need to scratch install the HMC to recover it.
It may look like a linux PC but it is not. It is a pSeries HMC.
Why bother?
Just use it as it is meant to be used.

Thanks hfax, you have obviously mastered the art of writing good forum code.
So few characters and so much information.
Nice one.
(still it took me so much more typing than you would have used)
Perhaps I should have just gone with "Nice one" ;-)

hfaix,

czy ty te? jeste? ?wirni?ty?

Well, gosh da thanx 4 help da!
BTW, this is a test machine its only use is by the unix group--we don't care what happens to this machine; and it is quite e-z to reload the HMC w/ the recovery disks.......

Ok, since you're willing to rebuilding it. Have you tried putting setuid's on the commands you want to run? I don't know if that will work or not.

Sounds fun!
