Hi,

I'm trying to configure network communications between my HMC and my logical partitions. All my partitions run at 5.1 ML03.

I've read in the HMC installation & Admin guide that in order to enable network communications with DNS and short hostnames requires extra configuration.

I have tried adding the short hostnames into the local host files but with no avail. However, on each partition, if I issue "/usr/sbin/rsct/bin/lsrsrc IBM.ManagementServer Hostname" I get back the fully qualified hostname, eg hmc.domainname.co.uk. Could this be the problem and if so how do I change it?

Thanks

John

Hi,
did you have the file /etc/netsvc.conf ?

This file should have following line inside:

hosts=local,bind

So that first the adresses stored on /etc/hosts will
be used. Otherwise the the DNS entry is used.

Its set to local,bind on both HMC and partition.

We've tried using short hostnames, using DNS, not using DNS, using full hostnames and using full and short hostnames.

We've also changed the order of the hostnames in the local host files, eg hostname hostname.domain.co.uk etc etc.
