I have been following Kyle's post to set up hmail server to attempt to set up voice mail to email for a client. I am using a gmail account, and have gone through all the steps as thoroughly as I can. When I run the diagnostics on hmail, this is the message I receive:
______________________________________________________________________________

When I leave a voice mail in the IPO, none of the logs on the hmail server register, and I see no activity in monitor. If the above test shows the relay is working (I think that's what it is saying....) the problem has to be with my IPO setup?

The SMPT screen on the IPO looks like this:

Server address: 192.168.1.24, which is the IP address of the IPO
Port: 2525, which is in the hmailserver as an SMTP port
Email from address: vm@xxx.xxxxxx.xxxxxx.gmail.com, which is my gmail domain with ipo added in front of it, and matches the domain and user name I set up in the hmail server.
I have the 'server requires authentication' box checked, and the email and passwords duplicate what I created as the user in hmail.

I read a thread that referenced putting the ip address in an IP route, but heck if I had an IP address I wouldn't need all this - I'd just put it in the SMTP tab. I do have a working 0.0.0.0 route, because I use remote teleworker software.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a) what filters I can use in monitor to see what's going on, or b) what I need to change in my configuration? This is a huge deal because so many of our smaller clients use gmail or godaddy, and if I could come up with a generic solution it would be of great value to them. Thank you in advance.

the server address is the address of the PC hosting the hmail service not the IPO.
Mike

Thank you - when I change the ip address to the pc with the hmail, the emails still don't send and when I do a diagnostic test the connection fails outbound to the smtp server. When I change it back to the IPO IP address, it connects. What would be the connection between an instruction in the IPO and the outbound relay? Thank you - Diana

The reason the smtp failed is because my authentication settings for the computer were different from those of the lan. I made them the same and now the smtp relay is working, but the IPO doesn't appear to be sending anything upon completion of a voice mail message.

The SMTP server address needs to be the address of the HMail server or the IPO will not be able to send out.
Mike

I am not quite sure what you are saying. The instructions say that the SMTP tab in the IPO should be populated with the domain/name created in the hmail server. Then there is a tab in the hmserver that directs the messages to gmail. So if you mean that the SMTP server address is my PC because the hmail server resides on my PC, I understand that and with that change, and a few tweaks to hmserver, it appears to be sending out (my diagnostic message is the same as the original one posted again, with my system using the IP address of my PC in the SMTP tab.) If you are referring to something else please let me know.

Another weird thing - I hate to mention it because I don't understand it - but I went into monitor and checked the voice mail options under the call tab, changed their color, and immediately my monitor screen filled with sip rx and sip tx messages, all in red, flying by to fast to read, that were different from my normal sip rx/tx messages that my sip trunks generate. There were different IP's in them that looked public; I didn't know what I was looking at so I fixed it by unchecking the tab for now. Diana

So I have a feeling I am about to feel really stupid. I read in another post that the SMTP server can be smtp.gmail.out after R9.0.3? If true my problems are resolved :) - and I feel stupid.

Please don't tell me you have the IPO on a public IP address for the SIP. It sounds like someone is trying to hack your IPO. Post some of the messages that you are getting to make sure.
Mike

derfloh yes that's the thread I found that could make this effort pointless...
teletechman no my IPO isn't on a public IP address but the hacking is a disturbing thought.

post the message and we will see if they are hacking. You might also look at the SSA to see if you see any errors related to wrong passwords for ext login.

I think I created the situation somehow with all my random hmail setup attempts. Once I left hmail and tried testing with the smpt.gmail.out the tx/rx errors stopped.
