Can anyone tell me what this executable is please? My friends virus checker picked up a virus last week which it seems to have successfully removed (unfortunately he didn't make a note of the virus name) but since then on boot up he gets a message saying the hlcwshz.exe is not found on the C drive. Is this a Windows essential or something more sinisiter in the background? I've done a search on Symantec and Google without any success.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I'll pass that information on and tell him to give it a try.

No it is not a legitimate windows file - if you no longer have it on your computer - that's good

The reason for your message is because there is probably a "run" key left in the registry, trying to run the file - as you no longer have the file, you get the error message.

What o/s is on your friends computer ?

better still - get him to do this :-

Please Download hijackthis from

Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

After the scan has finished the "scan" button will turn into a "save log" button

save the log file and paste it here

Do not delete anything yet, as most things hijackthis finds are harmless and needed.
