Hi,

Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server. Office 2000 has been installed and re-installed using the transform file from the Office 2000 Resource Kit.

Everything within Office works fine, with the exception of Excel. Every time I launch Excel, I receive the following error:

"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional"

In the Event logs, Event ID 1004...

Detection of product '{00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006873C998E7}', feature 'ExcelUserData', component '{8ADD2C96-C8B7-11D1-9C67-0000F81F1B38}' failed. The resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\UserData' does not exist.

If I manually create a "UserData" DWORD entry in the registry, under the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel" key, the problem is resolved.

Obviously I can't do this for each user that logs into the Terminal Server, it should happen by default ( the creation of "UserData" with a value of 1 ) when they log in or launch Excel, but it doesn't.

As a result, they get the Windows Installer message EVERY time they launch Excel.

I have thoroughly gone through all of the steps referenced in the Microsoft article here...

thread48-1158647

but this has not resolved the problem. Has anyone else seen this one before... and if so did you resolve it somehow?

thanks in advance!

Resolved!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Install\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel

Note the last key!!! It's "Excel" as opposed to "Common". "Common" is referenced in the Microsoft article,
I created a "UserData" DWORD value under the Excel key...

right click on Excel, then "New", then "DWORD Value". Name it "UserData" and give it a value of "1
