If I hit the history button in IE5.5, it lists all the sites i've visisted in the alloted time I've set my history to go back to. However, if I hit the search button within the history window, and simply type in anything, it brings up history files of a select few sites i've visited in the past, even after deleting TIF, History, and all cookies. They cannot be deleted and don't exist in the history folder. It seems as if these files simply don't exist anywhere on the HD. I read a past thread (thread608 -100865) but found the suggested methods not to work. Any halp would be great!

Scabster,

If you're familiar with DOS, you do this:
It will totally clean everything.

Click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart In MS-DOS Mode, and then click OK.

At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command, and pressing Y if you are prompted to confirm folder deletion:

cd\windows
smartdrv
deltree cookies
deltree history
deltree tempor~1
exit

I'm using Windows 2000 professional, so I just adapted the folder name to WINNT instead of the windows directory. However the 'smartdrv' command is not recognized. Any suggestions? By the way, thanks so much for the help so far.

It's not neccessary. Don't think it will work at the command prompt though.
