You are using McAfee ViruScan. It is a known problem. I have the same thing on my home PC (which I'm not at right now) so my wording may not be exact. If disable the option for hostile Java scripts (or something like that), your history will work again.
I have uninstall VirusScan, and restart the computer, but my history folder is still not working! When I click on the history icon in IE6, the left panel open with a blank screen and only a "x" in the upper left corner to close the history panel.
Delete the history folder from dos mode. It'll get recreated clean at restart. I'll assume you have 98. Click start--shutdown--restart to ms-dos. At the prompt type the following command then press enter:
Deltree /Y c:\windows\history
Then wait a moment then type exit or win and hit enter to restart into windows or do a ctrl + alt + del to restart. As i said, the History folder will get recreated clean at restart. You shouldn't have any problem but if for some reason the hitory folder doesn't appear then don't panic. It's there but not where it's supposed to be. If that's the case click start--find files--and search for history. When found open Explorer and drag it into the Windows folder then restart.
If you have winME you'll need to use a startup disk to get to dos. Insert the disk and start the computer. After it boots to the disk select minimal boot from the options. That'll take you to a dos prompt.
I delete the c:\windows\history folder in DOS. restart. no new history folder created. search for "history". There is a history folder in c:\windows\profiles\history. So I move that folder into the c:\windows. Restart. Now there is two history folder. 1. c:\windows\history and c:\windows\profiles\history. Both folder contains
\History\index
when i open IE6, click on history icon, blank screen with "x" button available, nothing else.
