I would like to construct a histogram in Excel of the distribution of a single column of 108 numbers varying from 36.1 to 86.7. (1) I would like to divide these numbers into the following intervals: 36 – 40, 41 – 45, 46 – 50, 51 – 55, 56 – 60, 61 – 65, 66 – 70, 71 – 75, 76 – 80, 81 – 85 and 86 – 90. (2) Can I compute a histogram of this distribution in Excel, or do I use a simple bar chart?, and (3) compute and displaya continuous distribution as a curve. Is this possible in Excel or should I find a statistical package?

Hi dr

have you got the Analysis toolpak addin activated? If you do, choose Tools > Data Analysis & there's a histogram option in the dialog box. If you don't actiuvate first : choose Tools > Add-Ins ... > Analysis Toolpak

Hope that's all you need - if not, you'll either have to get a commercial addin or try creating one yourself

Cheers
Nikki
