I am trying very hard to get The ProCenter Manager running on my Windows 7 32-bit pro machine. I can get it to run on my regular XP machines, but not on Windows 7.

I have loaded Windows XP Mode, which is an XP virtual machine, on my Windows 7 box and everything else that won't run on W7 will run on there, like Observer/Composer 4.0 and some other stuff, but ProCenter Manager will not run under XP mode either. I am having the feeling that something on this box is blocking something that needs to happen, but I have no firewalls on, and all the anti-malware stuff that's unique tot his machine is off as well. I know it can see the server because it will ask for my login and password - but then it says "Loading Configuration" at the bottom of the splash screen and never goes any further - plus when that happens it's drinking a big chunk of CPU time. I have to end task it to make it go away.

I spoke to my vendor tech about this several months ago, and he mumbled something about "the firewall had to be on, or maybe off - he couldn't remember".

For those about to remind me that this version of the client comes up and says it will not load on this version of Windows when I try to install it, I will point out that Microsoft makes a handy little tool called ORCA that allows you to edit the .msi file and remove the version checking from the install criteria - so it goes happily along and installs everything like a good little computer. Problem is I can't get it past "Loading Configuration..."

So even if it's iron clad guaranteed it will not run on W7, it should still run under the XP virtual image, but it won't, which is why I'm wondering if something is being blocked that I'm not seeing??

So if any of you expert folks out there have a solution to me getting this version running on W7 I would appreciate it!

I had to update the OSCC V7R3 server and clients to General Patch 7 to get support for Windows 7. That's been awhile back and GP12 is the latest.
I believe Windows firewall has to be off. Never used ORCA, it does sound handy.

OK, understood. Now I'm trying to figure out how to find what GP I'm running for OSCC. I know the client I have is V7 R3.5.140, but clicking the cute little "Help" link doesn't give me the usual system info that I would expect. Not sure if I go into the server processes and look at properties if I'm going to be able to figure that out.

GP7 bind number is V7 R3.7.143. I think you may be GP5. GP6 is 7.3.6.141

I actually found GP6 install leftovers on the server and there was a patch file under there that I applied to my install on my W7 machine. I ran the client and it pretty much was going down the same no response route, but I got an E-mail from someone that I needed to look at so I popped up the E-mail screen. Some 10 minutes later the client popped up on the screen - I forgot I left the banner stewing while I went to read the E-mail. Once it's loaded it works pretty decent - so at least now I can start it, go get breakfast and use it when I get back!! I have no idea why it loads "configuration" so slow... I'll have to see if I can sweet talk someone from my vendor into uploading a newer patch file onto an ftp server someplace where I can accidentally download it.... maybe that will speed things up!

Thanks for the help - you were the one who got me looking around for the patch. I knew I had one sitting on my desktop that I saved for whatever reason, and I knew the tech did a patch PM on the system in 2011 right before I went off warranty. Good thing the tech left the install directory lying on the server!
