HiPath 4000 V6 AMO book? 1

I've just jumped from an ancient ROLM 9751 to a Siemens HiPath 4000 V6! Went to the basics class, but had to leave early due to an emergency. The class only covered the V5 though (so nothing on the completely different V6 hardware). I'm trying to figure out this system.

I have no documentation except for how the programmer set it up. No previous experience with any Siemens 4000 system. No phone experience except one year working out how the 9751 worked. (I got it because the previous phone guy walked out the door (got fired(?)) and I said I'd take a whack at it.)

I've been trying to work out the AMO commands. I've found a V5 AMO book online. Is there a V6 one? (Stuff like CHA-DATE are listed for the V5, and apperantly that has been removed for the V6.) Some of the pages in the V5 manual say "only available in html format". Is there a version like that anyone has for V5 or V6?

99% of the AMOs remain intact from V5. Yes, CHA-DATE changed, as the time is now set via the SLES operating system rather than by AMO. Most of the other AMO changes simply involve the new choices for IPv4 and IPv6 support. If you are truly a "newbie" to the wonderful world of HiPath 4000, you are in a great situation to learn on V6. Those technicians who already know HiPath 4000 well have struggled with V6, as the concepts are so very different. Unfortunately I cannot send you documentation via this site. Will you return to the BASIC course? Hope so!!!

Ha ha. I don't know about "wonderful world of HiPath". In the year I spent with the ROLM system, I found the command setup to be fairly user friendly. So even me, with no phone experience, was able to figure out a major portion of the command structure and how the hardware worked. This system compared to the ROLM is a nightmare right now, and not user friendly at all.

At least it's not a terribly complicated setup. I'm using it as a PBX with no IP/SIP(?) phones, one APE, and only three types of phones: 40T, 15T, and analog lines. I've got 500+ users. The system has no connection to any LAN (except to the APE) or Siemens per our IT security.

I may have some really dumb "newbie" questions for awhile. The Level2 (?) tech assigned to the system for the warranty (with another company) is not familiar with the V6. I've got 12 other systems (video, PA, voice, etc.) that I'm in charge of, and only get limited time on the system to try to figure this thing out. (Although the work requests never seem to slow down!)

Any help you, or anyone else on this forum, can provide me with (until I can get back to the class or figure this thing out) will always be immensely appreciated!

Exp: I was told "In order to use 4357 as a station number instead of a hunt group it has to be deleted in the dial plan as a DAR of HUNT number and added as a STN. The dial plan is managed with the AMO WABE."

This is Greek to me. DAR? Dial plan? All I know is that I can't assign 4357 to a phantom extension because the system tells me it's "reserved as HTG" (something I guess the original programmer did. It was used as a HELP line.), and I need to use it.

I worked in development in Santa Clara, CA during the days of the 9751. Yes, it was a beautiful telephone system, especially 9005.2. We were shocked and saddened to see it die. But wait. That technology lives on inside the UK's "Realitis", also known as the HiPath DX!!!! Amazing.

Yes, I know all that AMO stuff sounds crazy, but it takes time to master it. Ever tried to drink a shot of Scotch Whiskey? Tastes like horse dung and rocket fuel mixed together in hell...the first time. Now I like it. Get yourself back into training. There are training centers in Texas, the UK (Nottingham), Belgium, South Africa, Brazil, etc - ready to help you learn.

For now, you WILL struggle, make mistakes, piss off everybody, but it is the learning process. Everybody goes thru this phase. Feel free to ask specific questions and I will try to respond.

Regarding your "4357": There is an AMO that defines the existence of the Hunt Group. The AMO command to display ALL Hunt Groups is: DIS-SA;

But since you say that "4357" is "Reserved", this means that someone assigned "4357" to be a Hunt Group "pilot number" in the Dial Plan (AMO WABE), but then either never completed the transaction by performing "ADD-SA", or possibly deleted the Hunt Group, but never deleted the Hunt Group pilot number from the dial plan.

To see if "4357" exists in AMO WABE (the Dial Plan), type "DIS-WABE:TYPE=GEN,CD=4357;"
Here you will probably see that "4357" has been assigned a Digit Analysis Result (DAR) of "HUNT". This means that the system's code will interpret this number, when dialed, as a HUNT GROUP 'pilot number", which means that dialing "4357" will distribute your call to a select set of stations - all of which are configured in AMO SA.

Since the "4357" Hunt Group no doubt does not exist, try typing "DEL-WABE:TYPE=CD,CD=4357,DAR=HUNT;" This command should remove ONLY "4357" from the Dial Plan.

DO NOT EXPERIMENT with DEL-WABE, as you can delete the entire dial plan by typing DEL-WABE:TYPE=DPLN...... I repeat, do NOT type that!!!!!

Now to add "4357" as a Station, type: ADD-WABE:CD=4357,DAR=STN;

Now you must build the station record, using either AMO SCSU if this is an Analog station, or AMO SBCSU if this is to be a Digital or IP station.
The easiest way to accomplish this feat is to REGEN an existing station - which means to use a similar station as sort of a Template.

Try "REG-SBCSU:<enter your template station number>;" <this will REGEN a digital station; remember to use REG-SCSU if you are working with an Analog station>

The result will be the complete AMO necessary to build the station record for the station number that you are attempting to use as a template.

Now you need to modify the template with your desired station number and Physical Equipment Number (PEN - the hardware that is going to support your board, e.g.SLMO). Place your mouse cursor anywhere in the BLACK REG-SBCSU command, and press your ENTER key. This should transfer the REGENed command into the buffer area (bottom of the Expert Access window), where you can modify the command to include your NEW station number "4357" and a New Physical Equipment Number (PEN). So if you had selected station number 4444 as your template, and its PEN was 1-1-10-5, you must change the "4444" to "4357", and change the "1-1-10-5" to an available PEN. When you think you are done, press ENTER to submit your entry, and hopefully it works!

If you need to know which PEN(s) are available, visually locate the shelf and slot containing the correct type of PCB (Printed Circuit Board), such as the SLMO, which supports Optisets and OptiPoint 500 phones (example only). Or if you are familiar with AMO BCSU "Table" view, you can use it instead of visually locating the correct board. If you locate the desired board as shelf number "2", Slot "5", then the command to find an available PEN is: DIS-SDSU:NOGEN,,PEN,PER3,1,2,5;

The first time I logged in to V5 with Assistant, did a search and put myself into the "spreadsheet" view I must have been white as a sheet, because when the tech stopped laughing he put me in expert mode and showed me that exact trick you just explained above, plus showing me for a digital station you still have to go back into Assistant, bring up the station, and put the tick mark in the "key system" box. I have never figured out which parameter I can change in the REG-SBCSU string to make it default to having key system activated.

The other thing he showed me that is really cool is that comwin (expert mode) has a macro function. When I moved 3 departments into the building where the 4000 is I needed to create about 70 phones. I sorted them all by phone type or some other criteria and then did the REG-SBCSU command for an existing phone of that type. I then pasted as many copies of that data block into notepad, changed all my extension numbers and PENs, and then saved the resulting file with a .cmd extension. Now I can go into expert mode, say load macro and give it that file, then say run, and watch as it takes about 30 seconds to create all those stations. I also have another one that does the same thing for the call forwarding entries. Whenever I need to do a batch of stuff I just edit those files and re-use them. It's one of the slicker things I like about 4000 )

The other thing he gave me is a spreadsheet that has 3 columns. The first column is the 9006.x AMO, the second column is the "equivalent" V5 AMO and the third column is the AMO description. I'm attaching that document if it is of any help to anyone.....

Another thing you can do to make programming easier is Comwinedit
First you logon then click 'macro' & retreive system variant.
After that you can right mouse click on any command and go to MML editor.
Then you can change what you want to send in.

Sorry Iamnothere, I've been meaning to thank you for your help. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to use the info you supplied me. There was a tech here on another matter and he corrected it.
However, I did watch very closely what he did, and your post gave me the knowledge to have a clue about what I was seeing! I've got the info you gave me posted for future use.

I am scheduled again for BASIC class in TX. Now that V6 hardware has been added, I am really looking forward to it!

I still have many questions. I hope most can be covered there.
