Morning all,

I have worked with Cisco CM5.1 and above and I need some assistance in upgrading our existing HiPath 4000 V2 to enable the company to have remote IP Phones at various sites in the UK. I have read a lot of information and some of it seems to conflict.
I gather I will need 1 if not more Stmi cards, an upgrade to v5 at least.
The business has used the existing 30 OptiPoint 400 Phones between two buildings on the same LAN (via LES10 BT circuit). I would like to use 4Mb ADSL at each site, there will only be 4 - 6 phones at each site to start with. I would be grateful if I caould have some advise on what realy is needed unless I have it already and how I can go about testing it on a local ADSL line?

Thanks,

Iain

I have checked the system and have found an STMI2 board Q2316-X.
Can anyone assist with setting up IP phones from here on please?

I don't know enough about it to completely answer the question, but I have set a few of them up within my WAN.

Assuming the IP address of your STMI card is not out-facing, which would be rather unsafe, you would need some kind of VPN setup or tunnel from the remote site to the site with the switch. How that gets set up is the part I don't know.

After that you just set the gateway address in the phone to the network address of your STMI card and put in the extension. Of course you also have to create the extension as an IP phone in the switch, etc. If the phone can connect to the remote switch it should come up and go online. Then you can work out the QOS and VLan stuff you guys are using for your organization. I would get the phone to come online first and then sort out the rest.
