I need some help. I have a HiPath 4000 V5 and I need to replace the HD. Can someone please help me with the step-by-step procedure? I've done this once before and can't find the doc provided to me.
I didn't do that in class because I was beyond that point. You need the PC-HI tool to create the image, and it is supposed to be on Tonido (see FAQs) but Tonido seems to be having a bad hair day because I was just on there to upload something and there are no files....

If you had a good replacement HD (same model), and your CF card was good (bootable) and also had the Unixware install files on, you could
deactivate hd
remove hdcf card
swap hd
insert card, wait for it to boot ADP from CF (as blank HD won't boot)
copy ddrsm from device 6 to 1, areas E (bootable DB), maybe F (regens), and I (unixware install files)
reload ADP again to load from hd
wait for it to install UW again as you've only copied the RMX DB which gives you telephony, but it needs to install the assistant.
Lots to go wrong there and it probably would.
If it's a simplex system you're looking at system downtime as ADP runs on the same processor as the SWU.
If you have PCHI tool AND the software, you can use it rebuild a blank HD over atlan as long as the ADP is running, so, again it needs to be running from CF card.
If the CF is correct, it will be bootable, i.e, a copy made from the HD with copy-ddrsm. The Assistant can make some backups to CF that are not bootable, not too useful.
If you have a working CF you don't need PCHi tool. You can copy from CF to HD. The CF needs to contain a bootable PDS area which you copy back, and the Unixware install files on SCR area. If you have those, you are OK.
I always found the HDCF cards did not respond well to replacing the HD, it was less trouble to just get a new HDCF card with HD on it.
Sometimes when they do the installation the vendor will give you an envelope with the original system CF card on it, or if you ever had an upgrade done you might have one from that. It might be another way to at least get the HD online, and then restore your backup. So if you have a pile of crap from the original install you might want to snoop through it! I have a box of stuff upstairs that I think ended up here from the V5 before I migrated the whole company to the platform and went to V7. I'm not sure I would have any idea what version of V5 might be on it if I can find it. If I find it the card only holds 2GB - I could probably upload it somewhere, but you would have to make a CF card bootable - I think there is a tool for that too - I know there is one to make a bootable USB stick....
