Sunday, I distractedly downloaded and installed some software and now if I leave my computer hooked to the WinXP Pro home network, the router address gets chenged to 169.254.x.x, but if I disconnect my machine from the network and reset the router, everything is ok (actually, I apparently have to diable each NIC in each machine, then power off the DSL modem, reset the router, then enable the NICs, leaving my machine off the net.

What I've got is a Linksys BEFSR41 DSL Router and ZoneAlarmPro as a firewall. Both computers are running WinXP Pro.

SO . . . how do I find the offending program or file?

Thanks!

Try System Restore. BTW, why do you have 2 nic's and a router?
