I have the Highpoint RocketRaid 1640 that I paid a pretty penny for back in the day. I've had it running with Vista in strip 0 ok in the past. I recently reformatted and the strip keeps breaking. I'm using the latest 2.06 drivers. I know the card is a bit outdated by now, but I would like to avoid buying a new one. can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Thanks!

I have also tried disconnecting the raid drives and installing vista on my 74gb raptor which is connect to the raid controller because of the sata. I get the same problem. it makes a beeping sound, gives me a blue screen and reboots.

I've had it running with Vista in strip 0 ok in the past.

So, what did you do differently? Did you load the drivers with the OS or did Vista already have them?

To be sure, I would use DBAN to quick-nuke both drives then, in system BIOS, enter the RAID BIOS for the card. Create the array and double-check it's there by rebooting. Have no other drive or peripheral connected, then try loading Vista again.

Best of luck.

thanks Tony I'll give it a shot. now that you mention it I bet windows used its own drivers. I used the new ones during the install, but I wonder if they switched afterwards

I think the whole key is correctly building the array in BIOS, select desired stripe size and RAID type, that's why I recommend a BIOS reboot to check. Windows should see it as a a single drive and take it from there...but remember RAID 0 has 0 redundancy so BACKUP!
