High tech lay-offs

Ariba announced major lay-offs (700 jobs) so did Broadvision and Inktomi. It also looks like i2 will also be laying off people. Who is next. How is this going to effect the overall high tech community. Are Cisco, Intel, IBM and the other big players planning major layoffs.

The market is just cleansing itself... of all the hype and BS laid down by the VC (rememer when VC meant the enemy?) and bogus overpaid CTO's who perpetuated lame dot com ventures that added little or no value to the user experienece. Samething happended to internet development sector in, I believe, 1995, it the first explosion of corp web sites that really did nothing but a lot of silly gliltz.

What will survive are the sites that add real value to the user. Those have become few and far in between.

I think supply chain sites and sector will be blipped, but as one article that I read today points out that supply chain has been around for about 20 years, and is not like some dot com concept.

Throw in the political meanderings of the new Busch admin, and it should be a real roller coaster ride, until we recover from the rape.

Don't worry, be happy.

its not end of the world even with the layoffs there are still more jobs out then there are GOOD People i think of computer biz as the car biz in 1920 a lot of people making cars and a lot fell down but the car biz is still 25% of the usa gnp it changed but did not die So long and thanks for all the fish.

A lot of these layoffs are not IT jobs, but sales...
There is still a nice demand for anyone with experience.

it is like one step to filter mess and lowqualified people in it to save s/w quality but competion and reduction of salaries will happen surely ,but internet will not die ,it will remain in good areas which are rally helpful..
