Hi All,

Has anyone experience unusually high server utilization after upgrading a Novell server from Netware 4.2 to 5.1? We have a Compaq Proliant server with 1GB ram that has just started acting up. We have unloaded Arcserve and Norton but are still having problems. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

How high is it? Is it constant or only at certain times?

Chris

Check the portal to see whether a certain process/NLM is causing the problem. -----------------------------------------------------

If you upgraded the server, novell has docs out on their website about high utilisation. You should review it and and also performance tune the server. Also, check the compaq drivers, since you upgraded the server to 5.1, did you remember to also install the latest compad NSSD drivers?? The older 4.x drivers will work, but there have been reported issues with various device drivers utilizing the CPU's processes.

Hi All,

The fix seems to have been applying a patch from Novell. We uninstalled and reinstalled both Norton and Arcserve. That did not do a thing. After the patch, we are back to normal. thanks for all of your help. I will try to get the exact patch from our other admin.
