Hi, I am running postgresql 7.2.4 on solaris 9.

About 6 oclock this morning i noticed a high load on the server, which i thought was strange as nothing is really going on on the server at that time.

When i examined the postgres logs for that time i had a series of lines:
Code:
2005-02-28 05:26:33 [3651] DEBUG: pq_recvbuf: unexpected EOF on client connection
2005-02-28 05:31:00 [13455] FATAL 1: unsupported frontend protocol
there are a lot of these lines and ive seen nothing on tek-tips regarding these errors/notices. Can anyone give me any pointers or have any ideas what this sort of thing means and whether this could be causing the high load on my database server?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

What does "uptime" give you? Is there an application running on the server? It seems there may be a problem with the application.

hope this helps...

just ran uptime and it gave me
Code:
1:01pm up 63 day(s), 4:44, 1 user, load average: 4.68, 5.22, 5.43

postgresql is running on this server. I also run some analysis but that had finished by 2am whereas my load for that particular day was high between 5am and 6am.

When i say high, i mean about 12 for 5 min average

Check your crontab to see if anything is happening. Is there a pg_dump or vaccumm going on at that time. Check crontab for root, and the postgresql user.
