I try to build a group with a hierarchical grouping: When I use two numeric fields with the option (hierarchical grouping option) it is OK but when I try to do it with two text fields it doesn't.

Have you an answer about this problem or more information about this function

I tank you so much for your help

Sophie

Hierarchical grouping can be summarised as follows...

1) You have a table with fields and a Primary Key which is a Single Field.
2) Primary key can be Number or String, etc.
3) There is another field in the SAME TABLE that has a value equal to the PRIMARY KEY of another record. So therefore it must be the same type of data as the PRIMARY field.
4) Group your report on the primary key.
5) Specifiy the other field in Hierachrical grouping

If you don't want the key field to appear in it's original form, use Customise Group Name to select a better description for the Group Name/Tree. This doesn't break the rules above and improves the appearence of the report.

If you want conditional indenting, we found a way to do this. See the August 2002 issue of Crystal Clear. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear
