Hiding usernames and passwords needed in ini files

how do you hide a username and password that is required as part of you java code to access another system. the only way i know is to store them in an ini file (plain text) we have a restriction of Java 1.1.8

Well, you could encrypt the username/password in a text file. This product:

Its not shall we say the most documented Jar i have come accross.
