I read somewhere that in 2003 Server you can hide shared folders from beeing seen in file share lists and are not published in Active Directory. This can done by adding a $ symbol after the file name ie.SharedFolder$ I tried this and it works great, the problem I am having is I do not know how to map drives on work stations to these hidden shares, or map applications to hidden shared back end databases. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi,

if you would normally map to a share called data on a server by mapping to \\server\data, then if it is a hidden share called data$ then map to \\server\data$

the name is as you share it, but the $ just prevents it from being seen....

hope this helps

J.
