hiding .profile

After upgrading our OS, users can now see the .profile and other hidden files in there home directory using "Tiny Term" FTP client. No settings have been changed on the client. Any ideas as to how they can be hidden?

You don't. The . in the .profile hides it from normal the ls command without any flags. I think you should change the settings in your ftp client
