Hi, someone knows how to hide files and folders?
In Novell Netware you can set "FILE SCAN" permission to a file or folder and the users cannot see any files, cannot copy the files, but He can execute the applications inside.
I was testing "List Folder Content" permission in Windows 2000, but if I disable it, I cannot access the folder.
Hiding the share with "$" is not the same, because if you know the share name, you could copy the files inside

Thanks

in win2000 right click the file or folder and choose HIDDEN, then from (my documents e.g.) lclick tools, folder options, view, dont show hidden files or folders.
and that should do it.
good luck.

I'm thinking that a more robust answer is being seeked. I have the same issue, We don't want the folder hidden, we want to remove visability based on membership of a group.

Any ideas?

If you want to do such a task, first of all that partition should be NTFS. Then when you go into properties of that folder you can see "Security" tab. Click on it and add the appropriate group. In order to remove visibility choose the "Deny" for "List Folder contents".

Try this, I am sure it is not as good as Novell Netware.

That would be an administrative nightmare as you would have to specifcally deny groups of users. As Deny takes top precidence if one user was a member of both groups(the denied and the allowed) he would be denied.

Still looking :).

I too have tried to do effective user rights which Netware was able to do very effectively but W2000 cannot. One thing I was going to try was to create a DFS root with links under it based on directories that a user should have rights to ,then map that root as a drive. I believe this will work with win 2000 Pro but not necessarily with Win98 which Microsoft seem to have forgotten about.

How about if you have created a console then
user configuration/admin templates/start menu and taskbar/remove users folders from the start menu?
