Does anyone know a way of altering ADM policy files for the NT 4 poledit policy editor. I have had to install a Metaframe XP server into an NT 4 domain but as the servers drives have been remapped to M: and O: and the policy will only hide drives c: & d:, I obviously cannot hide them.

I have seen a reference on this site somewhere to editing adm files but couldn't find the thread.
thanks

Hi,

Yes!

You need to edit the adm file and change the number that is there by default to the one required:-

Open System.Adm (i think) and change to:-

VALUENAME "NoDrives"
ITEMLIST
NAME !!ABOnly VALUE NUMERIC 3
NAME !!COnly VALUE NUMERIC 4
NAME !!DOnly VALUE NUMERIC 8
NAME !!ABConly VALUE NUMERIC 7
NAME !!ABCDOnly VALUE NUMERIC 15
NAME !!ALLDrives VALUE NUMERIC 67108863 DEFAULT
; low 26 bits on (1 bit per drive)
NAME !!RestNoDrives VALUE NUMERIC 0
END ITEMLIST

67108863 is to hide ALL Drives
20480 will hide just M & O

Hope this helps,
Carl.

Hi,

Thanks for this, I've spent a fair bit of time looking at this and have now got it sorted.

I tried your code above and it didn't actually work with NT4 adm files - I think this code is for 2000/2003 and the adm files for NT4 are different and you can't add extra drives in (registry differences?? as these files are linked to registry hives), but only modify the hide all drives/hide no drives entry.

It lead me on to have a hunt through the MS site and found that you can alter the numeric value to whatever is appropriate for the hide all drives/no drives and it achieves the desired affect.

thanks again for your help

chris
