I have the same problem: want to hide a column used to sort the records, but should not be displayed
It's 3 year later and one would think BO solved this simple issue. Anyone got any good news?
1. Include the column in the grid.
2. Make the column heading blank.
3. Make the text in the column white.
4. Make the column as narrow as you can.
5. For the header and the data, turn off the right-hand border for the column.
6. For the column to the left, turn off the left-hand border for the header and the data.
This makes the data in the column disappear and makes it so that the column "hides" as part of another column.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.
Thanks - the work around was given before. The problem I have with this is that you don't see the column in Designer mode as well, you need to know that it's there, it's a nightmare for somebody else who picks up the work.
