Cognos 8.1

Hi All,

I have a report in Cognos 8.1 that a filed is "Carmakes", this field lists all the car makes and I have totals etc. I have an if statement that shows a few makes I have chosen, and the rest are displayed as "All".

I would now like to hide these "All"'s from the report.
I donlt want to filter these though, because filtering then distorts the totals that I have.

Can anyone possible guide me in the right direction?

Any info will be appreciated.

Michael

I think you're line of thought in your title will probably put you on the right track. Create a boolean variable that checks to see if the group is All. If it is, use the style variable and set the box type to none.

I'm not sure how this will affect your totals though. Will Cognos still count the values, or will the hiding the values change the totals. Let us know.

Hi UcfMike,

Thank you for the reply. I just tried the above and it hides the complete column, not just the criteria specified.

I believe there is a way of doing this using a "Conditional Block", but I can't get it to work.

You might want to try this option: Use 2 lists, instead of 1, and create the total line manually. The first list uses a new query with the filter to remove the "All" and the second list uses the existing query just to return the total line. Make sure you remove un-used query items from the query because 8.1 does not do that for you.

If you create pdf and want to make the alignment look good, you can UNION the 2 queries into 1, and use the UNION query for 1 list only. Make sure you create an order so that the total line appear at the end.
