Hi all,

Running a 3300 MXe. Have a bunch of speed calls with names in the telephone directory. is it possible that when a user looks for the person's name and dials it, the number is not shown.

I can't think of anything at this point. using privacy will hide the name all together.

thanks

I have run into this issue several times. I have yet to find a suitable solution.

P.S. I found you can't assign the privacy flag against a speedcall. The system won't let you.

As a one off solution, I've used ARS and the modified digits to dial different numbers than the number dialed. Basically using ARS as a speedcall. This gets unmanageable if the number of entries is too great.

Along the ARS thoughts....
Set up an IP trunk to yourself. This would be the equivelant of looping a T1 trunk back to another T1 trunk.

Set up an ARS route that routes 4 or 5 digit calls out the IP trunks. Example: 1234 would route out the IP trunks that actually loops back to the same 3300 as inbound trunks) Set the Digig mode to add extra digits like **# to the outbound dialing so that when the call comes back in the PBX would see **#1234.

Next, set up a speed dial of **#1234. This number would dial the actual number.

Next, put the number 1234 in your Tel dir. Now the only number you'll see in the directory is 1234 and when dialing that is all that will be seen also.

Confusing,yes.
Cumbersom, yes.
Pain in rear, yes.
Works, yes.

UncleRalphs suggestion inspired a thought.

Again using ARS, you could use a very long leading digit string. Instead of 1 digit use 10 digits or more. The display would be incapable of displaying the entire number.

oooo! That would be easier.
speed dial would dial 99999999999999999999999999<actual number> and digit mod would delete all the 9's.

Or, how about checking with the carrier to see if they offer abbreviated dialing. ARS would be 1234 routing all digits out carrier and then the carrier would dial the actual number. No speed dial required.

solution sounds good, thought of using ARS thing but didn't test it or think it through very much, however site has hundreds of these speed dials.

will see if they'll allow us to hide only certain numbers.

Thinking about it some more, if the carrier can do abreviated dialing this would be extreamly easy.
All you'd have to do is route the digits out to them and then you're done.
Now your receptionist can manage all that by updating the carrier and adding the Tel Dir Names.

If you use the Long digit string method there is really not much difference. Especially if you are familiar with using the import forms.

Hint: you can use an Excel formula (Concatenate) to combine values in separate cells into 1 cell. Then use copy and "Paste Special" and select the value only option to paste the value and remove the formula.

kwbmitel, not really concerned about the time rather the ARS restriciton in terms of entries.
I know there's a limit - need to look into this.

All thanks for the assistance. I'll try convince them to do only a few like MD, CEO etc etc. then the quantity won't be a problem.
