I want a simple way to hide my HTML so people can't copy it. Any ideas?

I'd rather not use JavaScript, but I will if I have to.

Peace out,
Peace Co.

Don't publish it on the net. The only real (working) solution to protecting your html code.

As Vragabond says - if you don't want people to copy it, don't publish it. AFAIK, there is no other way around this.

What you can do is make it harder for beginners and computer-illiterate people to copy... But you will never stop anyone who is even vaguely determined.

Hope this helps,
Dan

[li]Use the <INVISIBLE> </INVISIBLE> tags around the entire document.[/li]
[li]Use the DONTSTEAL attribute in the <BODY> tag.[/li]
[li]Ftp to your server, select all files and directories, hit "Delete".[/li]
[li]Put every existing copy of every file on floppies, place them in a shoebox and bury them in the backyard. There is another version of this method which involves placing the floppies in a plastic bag and hiding them in a different sort of hole. Both are equally effective.[/li]
[li]Password protect your entire site and make sure no one has the password, not even you.[/li]
[li]Employ a small but fanatically loyal and well-armed band of mercenaries to guard your site.[/li]
[li]Start>Run>format C:\[/li]
[li]Attack dogs, preferably rabid.[/li]
[li]Use any version of Microsoft Frontpage to create your site. (This won't prevent people from viewing your source, but no one will want to steal it.)[/li]
[li]Don't put your pages on the web.[/li]

It's not possible to hide your HTML, if the browser can read it, so can a person. Arguably, one reason for the web's rapid success is its open source nature - writers have been able to copy and adapt and develop eachother's ideas, making the web a better place. Learn to live with it.

Heheh - nice tip, Chris... I see they didn't follow their own advice, however, as you were clearly able to easily copy their guidelines ;o)

Very nice :) I've never seen quite so many useful points listed in one place before! You should turn it into an FAQ so we can refer others to it in future!

Groan.... not again!

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Haha

Thanks to all you guys. Specialy Chris (I thought you were serious about that invisible tag at first).

I guess I'll just let people steal my HTML then. Sigh. But hey, who's gonna steal HTML from my crappy web page anyway? Haha.

Peace out,
Peace Co.

Peace - you sound as if you're the only one who's code can be stolen. Virtually EVERY WEB PAGE ever written is open to everyon else. You have now joined the ranks, my friend, so get over it!

I have found a better way.
It involves a 1T electromagnet, a harddisk, and (because the special effects using those are rather weak) small nuclear device with an accelleration fuse and a contact fuse as well as a fuse acting on EM field strength (triple redundancy of course).

I must admit I haven't tested this in the wild but in theory it should guarantee that the data on the harddisk will be well and truly gone (as will all evidence of that harddisk ever being in your hands).
