Hi everybody,

Probably this is a simple question… but I can’t find the solution until now.

I am creating an Impromptu 6.0 report and it must show one column or another depending on the value selected in a prompt.

I have found the way to set other conditional formats, even hide the data values, but not the complete column.

Thanks in advance for any/all suggestions!
Javier.

Hi Javier,

You could try creating a calculated colum along the lines of:

if prompt value = 1 then column a else column b

and displaying this instead of the two you have now

Hope it is of some help

quartermass is right on target. see faq401-2137 and the section called "Prompts and Report Flexibility".

Kevin's solution is straight forward and of course the best solution. However, there is no way Javier can dynamically label the column depending upon the chosen prompt.

For instance, if the report has been designed to print either "QUANTIY" column or "AMOUNT($)" column depending on the prompt value selected, how would one label the column appropriately?[ponder]

I suppose the only solution is to give a suitable indication on the header of the report by inserting the prompt variable there.

nagrajm,

Not really.

What I usually do for a report of this complexity is to remove the default column headers and replace them with text objects in the Page Header. For dynamically labeled columns, just create a calculated column that changes text values based on the same prompt.

What gets tricky is having to change the formatting of the column (i.e. decimal places) based on the prompt chosen, but that's another story.
