Hi, I'm kind of new with the SQL2K AS and Amanager but I think I go it the basic idea of the service...
The question,
After creating the cube and dimensions,
How do I hide a dimesion level???

Let's say I design a dimension with 4 levels like this:
ALL TIME
2000
Q1-2000
Jan-00
Jan-1 2000
Jan-2 2000
Feb-00
Mar-00
Q2-2000
2001

What do I (at design) or the user (using Data Analyzer) have to do to let the user switch between the designed levels and this:

2000
Jan-00
Feb-00
Mar-00
Apr-00
May-00
Jun-00
...
2001
...

(I have another related question on another thread)

I don't use Data Analyzer so I am not familiar with it's interface and what it allows thw user to do. If DA allows, the user can Request Descendants of The Year at the month level. A good user interface should allow this. If you want to hide the level you can do a number of things

1) go into the cube editor and Expand you time dimension
and then set the visiblity of Quarters to False BUT
this will hide the Quarter level for all users of that
cube.

2) If only a specific group of people need this level
hidden you can creat another security role and use
Custom security on the time Dimension and disallow
access to only the Quarter Level. You have to be
careful when using Custom security because of how
Analysis Services loads the dimension.

3) You could create an Multiple Time Hierarchy and
structure the other hierarchy in the manner in which
the user needs.

MDXer, DA let you browse the cube using bars ,pie charts or grids, so It ias very nice and easy for marketing people.

do you know any good cube interface besides DA that allow me to use that "Request Descendants" you mention?

Because is not "TOP SECRET" info I will not need the use of security or roles and I was afraid that the only left solution was the use of another hierarchy.

The thing is that for the question I use the time dim but in reality is a Product Dim with 5 levels. And to be switching back and forth between views in the DA browser in not friendly.

I will experiment with a various alternatives product dims.

Practice dosen't make you perfect...
Just better than them!!!

Proclarity has most of the functions and cpabilities you are probably looking for. Selecting an interface to sit on top of olap cubes can and has been a whole thread in itself.
