Hidden Illustrator Files

I was working on a file in Illustrator, and as I was saving my comp crashed. and now the file is "hidden". When I go into Quark and place a file, I can see the file, and when I place it, it is just greyed out. And I when I double click on it, it does nothing. and I cannot open it in Illustrator, because it cannot see it.
any ideas?

What platform are you using?
If PC do you have .ai on the end of the file
If you send me the file I will try to open it.
