I am new to Paradox. I have worked with Access and Visual Dataflex. My VFW Post purchased a software package from a company called VSS-Software. This is a very good package for handling the Quartermaster/Treasurer's bookkeeping. The company required an annual fee to obtain a update key that allowed the software to work each year. The owner/programmer of this mom/pop company suddenly died of a heart attack several months ago. The family hasn't decided what to do with the software and leaving some 500 customers out in the dark. Since we purchased the software and only had to pay the annual support which included the new year start up key, I feel that the customer should be able to fix the software, if possible and move on. Does Paradox require compiling? Is there a way to poke into the DB's to possibly correct. I can provide anyone that wants to look at the annual update zip file, if interested. Our Post along with a bunch others need help.

The 'dbs' (tables) contain data only, not programming, in Paradox.

Are you sure that Paradox tables are being used? If so, they can most likely be accessed with a copy of Paradox. However, if they are 'protected', then you need a password to open them even from within Paradox.

The programming/screens/output are likely in .sdl/.ldl (programming), .fdl (screens) and .rdl (printout) files. POSSIBLY the developer distributes the ssl/lsl, fsl and/or rsl files - these are the SOURCE file versions. If you have these, then you COULD change the whole system.

Depends on what you have whether you can fix/change anything.

Let us know.

Great thanks, I am trying to get the source files some time this next month. Will let you know. It is a good system, to bad someone out there doesn't want to pick it up. They still have their website out there at
