Hi there

I've got a W2KAS running nicely. Suddenly ,during a reboot, it changes it's drive letters; ie. D -> E , E -> F etc. Of course it can't boot ,because D is the boot partition. The machine contains 2 harddrives ;0000(C,D,E,F) ,1111(G,H,I).
Removing the second one solves the problem more or less. It took over the D letter and left D to become G.

Sorry I know it sounds crazy.

Futhermore running a CHKDSK /F shows that random directories are trashed.

Trying to reinstall the W2KAS brings up the wrong letters on the wrong disk when they are both connected.
Doing that with only one disk is ok.

It works again ,but an explanation would be nice.

It could be a controller error ,maybe a HD error.

Looking forward to a reply.

Best Regards

JJ

You want to make sure that all the partitions on the second are logical drives and that the entire drive is partitioned as an extended partition, not a primary partition.
