Good morning all,

I pray that all are having a good summer.

My site is getting closer to deploying Unisys phones throughout the entire hospital, thus replacing the old 9751 system.

Due to budgetary reasons, our crew of 3 guys have not been able to take the General course provided by UNISYS.
Therefore I have to rely on this forum.

1. Recently one of our shelves went down, we missed an amber light, and took down some analog lines - how can I monitor ALL of the shelves through Direct Ammo commands and/or Openscape Assistant?
2. How can I see what time /date a shelf went down?
3.

Unisys phones on a 4K? Unisys training on a 4K? What kind of snake oil are they selling you? Perhaps I'm not understanding what's going on here.

Why wouldn't you be using Unify phones and getting your training directly from Unify?

Sorry my misspelling. The phones are Unify and it's the Unify training that my Management is balking at.
I wish I could find an on-line source that would allow minimal training.

This is why I come to this forum.

Deployment of phones is weeks away and our Management already said that the 3 of us (yes , 3 guys managing the system)would not get authorization for training until after December.

OK, good! Had me concerned... there are some shady vendors out there!

It's all a matter of scope. It's mostly me managing two systems. At least they're in the same town! My cohort in crime knows enough about who to call when things get bad. So there's 2 of us on 2 systems. We support about 250 stations at one site and 20 stations and 40 dispatch consoles at the other. That's why support is so important. If I get in over my head, I have backup. They can also manage deployment projects and keep us on task.

This forum is great for help. Don't be afraid to ask! The only folks that get beaten up are the ones that have no clue what they're doing and have no business being in there in the first place.

As far as monitoring your shelves.... haven't seen a magic screen for that. The HISTA will give explicit details about what happened and when. It might take some digging. Beware that the HISTA has a limited buffer, so if you have a lot of error messages, they may get overwritten after some time.

Your best friend is the documentation on the platform portal. Expert mode > Platform Portal. Documentation is all the way to the right. You might need to maximize your screen to see it.

Depending on what version of 4K you have the documentation in the portal maigh be broke! I know when I had 4K V7R1 the documentation was good, but they broke it in V7R2 and I'm not sure if there were any updates that fixed it. I have mot moved to V7 R8 yet so I'm not sure of that one.

That aside, from Expert Mode (Comwin) you can use:

DIS-VADSU; to see the status of devices, trunks and some peripherals. It will tell you how many are configured in the system and show you how many (if any) are in an error state.

DIS-VADSM; to see the status of modules/components of the system and some higher level stuff.

DIS-SIGNL:SYSTEM; will show you if there is a major alarm or minor alarm in the system, and the last time the processor(s) was booted.

DIS-BSSU (plus the PEN number as prompted) for T1 and ISDN PRI lines will show you if that circuit is in alarm or taking errors and how many of what kind. This can be helpful when reporting trouble to your provider. You can also clear the counters so you can see if the circuit is still taking errors.

Those are some "big picture" basics that might be helpful. I do highly recommend the classes from Unify - they are well done and well presented with a lot of hands-on time if you take the classroom classes. You will actually walk out the door with a USB dongle and the ability to build a functioning system from scratch if you take the whole line of classes. There are some classes like the prerequisite Assistant class that you can take over the web and you will get the full training manual for the course. That will at least give you a basic understanding of the topology and some of the things you can work with, and the web classes are not that much. I would also recommend the OS4KBACKUPS course, which is also web-based, because it will give you some huge insight on how to protect your system and quickly recover from a number of different possible calamities by making backup clones of your system hard disk, backups to external systems, backing up your configuration database and a lot more.

Maybe configuring SNMP would help you, MIBS are downloadable from Assistant. Then you don't need to keep checking hista, SNMP will tell you.

I haven't had much luck with SNMP on the 4K, and I haven't found many people that know anything about it (on the 4K). The MIBs seem really outdated. I have played with it quite a bit trying to get an inventory of my phones and the like, but gave up a couple years ago.
